The front of the AiPaper is a single flush surface with very narrow bezels and a slightly wider chin at the bottom. This space houses three touch-sensitive buttons, which add both form and function:

• AI button (long-press records a 15-second voice message and triggers AI response)

Sharp visuals and a high-quality writing feel

With a resolution of 300 PPI, the AiPaper delivers sharp, detailed images and crisp text. The contrast is excellent, and thanks to the included contrast adjustment setting, you can fine-tune the display to suit your personal preference-especially useful for dark images or text.

Another standout is the matte finish on the screen, which mimics the feel of real paper. It offers a slight resistance when writing, striking a perfect balance:

Writing on this surface feels responsive and enjoyable, making it a great option for those who write frequently.

But there’s no front light…

This is where opinions will differ. The AiPaper does not come with a built-in front light, which may be a dealbreaker depending on how you use the device.

• In daylight or bright indoor spaces: The screen looks fantastic without any need for extra lighting.

• At night or in dim environments: You’ll need an external light source, such as a bedside lamp. While this might be fine for some, others may miss the convenience of an integrated front light-especially when reading in bed or trying not to disturb someone nearby.

In short, if you’re someone who primarily reads or works in well-lit spaces, the lack of a front light won’t bother you. But for nighttime use, it’s something to consider.

The Viwoods AiPaper comes equipped with a 4100 mAh battery, which according to Viwoods, should last up to one week with daily use of about two hours. In my testing, I found this estimate to be accurate, typically getting between five and seven days of daily use-a solid performance for an e-ink tablet.

To better understand battery life under different conditions, I ran two specific test scenarios for both reading and writing:

• Low-impact scenario: Wi-Fi off, Bluetooth off, using Fast Refresh mode
